For
denali1's father, who passed away today.
May fire cleanse you.
May water soothe you.
May the wind carry you swiftly to your loved ones.
May the earth cradle you into her womb.
As once you were her child, again you return to her embrace.
If either of you need anything from me, please don't hesitate to ask.

I think the thing that attracts me to Hurt is the emotion they convey both musically and lyrically. Their lead singer feels *every word* he's singing. From softly crooned memories to screaming, raw pain and anguish. And he is matched note for note by the band itself.
I found them originally while driving home from work when I was still employed by Dollar Tree. Their first song 'Rapture' was hitting the airwaves and became moderately popular on 98.9 The Rock. Something about the music, the voice, intrigued me, as did the lyrics I began piecing together as I drove home and realized this wasn't just a song, this was the tale of a man breaking down after his girlfriend killed their child because God said it was a bastard.
I picked up the album shortly thereafter. I can't say I regret it, as it's rare that I like an entire album of songs and don't cherry pick between them on iTunes as I'm often wont to do these days.
Picking a favorite is not easy. But I think this song shows off the gamute of emotions they are capable of. I can only imagine he's singing about someone he once loved very much, and lost twice.

NINJA ASSASSIN.
The movie. I saw it tonight. And oh lawd did I giggle. It really should be renamed to 'Shiny Flying Knives and Buckets o Blood'. It would be a more accurate title.
( THERE MUST BE NO SHADOWS. )

For me it was the arrest of John Wayne Gacy. My parents were glued to the news casts about his arrest and the gruesome details emerging about his house and all the boys and young men he had buried under it. I lived in Chicago at the time and my parents had friends who lived perhaps two blocks from the site and I believe they also knew him, though were not close, they simply knew of him and maybe had met him before anyone knew the kind of psycho he really was.
In Soviet Utah, miscarriages can toss you in jail.
It's frightening that any state, even one as conservative as Utah, can pass a bill like this and bring women one step closer to not being real people, just walking wombs potential or otherwise.

And a list of classic and not so classic music I've been listening to for Halloween.

Good night, Mr. Jackson. May the devils that haunted you in life have no place near you in death.
I will forever remember you from when I was eight years old and 'Thriller' was on MTV and I was enthralled with your album.

In my last post, I put up a link to the horrible commentary made by the Rob, Arnie and Dawn show. After that, I proceeded to fire off two emails. Once sent and copied to Rob, Arnie and their station's general manager. A second to every single sponsor listed on their website.
I was one of many... MANY others who did so. I did hear back from a few of the sponsors, mostly assuring me that they were aware of the situation and equally appalled by it. So far, 10 sponsors have pulled their support.
The station is crying uncle at this point.
Never underestimate the internet, man.
